Ferry:Chiquilá ⇄ Holbox every 30m

Cancún Airport → Chiquilá → Holbox

Getting to Isla Holbox

Holbox has no bridge and no airport. The entire island is reached by a 25-minute ferry from a tiny port town called Chiquilá on the Yucatán coast. From Cancún, Chiquilá is a 2 hour 15 minute drive.

The route, step by step

  1. 1

    Cancún Airport (CUN) → Chiquilá

Three ways to make this leg. Private transfer (~2 h, door to door, USD 110–180 for the whole vehicle, up to 4 pax) is the easiest if you have luggage or kids. ADO bus runs 3–4 direct Cancún Airport → Chiquilá buses per day (~MXN 450 pp, ~3 h 15 min, air-conditioned, luggage hold). Rental car works but you’ll pay to park in Chiquilá (~MXN 100/day) and leave it there — no cars on Holbox.

  2. 2

    Chiquilá dock → Holbox

Two operators run the Chiquilá ↔ Holbox ferry: 9 Hermanos and Holbox Express. They alternate every 30 minutes from ~5:00 AM to ~9:30 PM, so you don’t need to book in advance except on peak weekends. Crossing is 25 minutes. Price is MXN 300 one-way per adult. Pay cash (MXN) or card at the ticket window. See live ferry status for the next departure.

  3. 3

    Holbox dock → your hotel

Taxi golf carts wait at the Holbox dock on every arrival. MXN 50–100 per vehicle depending on how far across town your hotel is (nothing is more than a 10-minute cart ride from the dock). Many hotels also offer free pickup — WhatsApp them your ferry arrival time and they’ll meet you.
