Parking in Chiquilá

Four or five commercial lots sit within one block of the dock. All charge roughly MXN 100–150 per day for an open-air space, MXN 200 for covered. Frequently asked questions

How much is the Holbox ferry one-way?
MXN 300 per adult (roughly USD 17). Children have reduced fares; infants are free. Same price on both operators (9 Hermanos and Holbox Express). Pay at the ticket window with cash (MXN preferred) or card.
How often does the Holbox ferry run?
Every 30 minutes from 05:00 to 21:30 in both directions. The two operators alternate; whichever's at the dock next is the one you take.
What time is the last ferry from Chiquilá to Holbox?
Officially 21:30, but confirm when you buy your ticket — operators occasionally cancel the final run in low season or bad weather. Plan to be at the port by 20:30 as a safety margin.
What time is the last ferry from Holbox back to Chiquilá?
Also around 21:30. If your return flight from Cancún is early morning, cross back the day before and stay in Cancún overnight — do not rely on the first morning ferry if you have a flight before 10 AM.
Can I bring my car on the Holbox ferry?
No. Holbox has no cars — only golf carts, bikes and small motorcycles. Leave your rental in Chiquilá at one of the paid parking lots next to the dock (around MXN 100/day per vehicle).
Can I bring luggage?
Yes, luggage rides in a designated compartment on the boat at no extra charge. Keep valuables and documents on your person. The crew handles loading.
Can I bring my dog or pet?
Yes — small pets in a carrier are fine on both operators. Larger dogs may need to be muzzled per Mexican transit rules. If your pet has anxiety, bring a towel and consider the earliest or latest departures when the boats are quieter.
How long is the crossing?
25 minutes dock to dock in calm weather. Up to 40 minutes if the Yalahau Lagoon is choppy. Both operators run the same route — no faster or slower option.
Is the Holbox ferry wheelchair accessible?
Partially. The boats have a ramp to board, but inside seating is on fixed benches, and bathrooms are small. The dock on both sides is step-free. Travelers with limited mobility should arrive early and ask the crew for help boarding.
What happens if the last ferry is cancelled?
Overnight in Chiquilá (basic hotels around MXN 400-700) or Kantunilkín (next town, 30 min inland). Taxi back to Cancún would be a 3+ hour trip and ~MXN 3,000. The ferry resumes at 05:00 so most travelers wait and take the first morning crossing.
